Essex group J Toomey Motors has completed the second phase of its Road Ahead programme.
The business had already benefitted from phase one, which addressed the need to improve revenues and customer service across the business by taking enquiry management to the next level.
Opportunities to sell were highlighted, and everyone learned of the need to demonstrate expertise and sell on value rather than price.
Leaders must focus on culture if they are to make the most of acquisitions, according to Coachworks Consulting.
The comments came after industry experts predicted the intense acquisition activity of the last 12 months will continue.
Earlier this month, the latest Motor Trader Top 200 Franchised Dealer Survey found that consolidation in the retail motor sector is gaining momentum.

Coachworks Consulting and Motor Trade Consulting UK have revealed details of their Pole 2 Pole workshops â€“ a ground-breaking programme addressing the polarisation in retailer performance.
The topics discussed during this one-day interactive programme will range from â€śguerrilla tacticsâ€ť for survival to industry-leading habits to release cash immediately for investment.
This is the first joint initiative created by the two businesses, and it is being driven and delivered by Coachworks Managing Director Karl Davis and Simon Parker, Managing Director at Motor Trade Consulting.

FRF Motors has identified significant opportunities to increase sales after Coachworks Consulting carried out two Growth Appraisals at the South Wales group.
The Vauxhall, Chevrolet and Mazda retailer, which has outlets in Swansea and Bridgend, has now commissioned Coachworks to deliver a bespoke Race 4 Growth programme to help transform aftersales.
The one-day Growth Appraisals found a lot of untapped potential around the opportunities to do business â€“ especially related to customer handling and VHC processes.
